Golden Cougars roll past the Red Raiders

FALCONER — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley boys soccer recorded its first win of the season with a 7-1 nonleague victory over Jamestown.

The Golden Cougars were led by Haydn Myers with a hat trick. Adam Dossey scored twice and recorded an assist, while Ethyn Gilbert had four assists. Christian Wilshire and Alex Reynolds both scored one goal.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (1-1-0) is back on the pitch Friday at Silver Creek against Silver Creek/Forestville. Jamestown (0-1-0) is on the road again Friday against Chautauqua Lake.

CARDINALS ROLL

RANDOLPH — Randolph downed Silver Creek/Forestville, 8-0, in a nonleague game for its first win of the season.

Griffin Nelson led the way offensively for the Cardinals, scoring a hat trick and adding two assists. Mathurin Griffith added two goals, Ryder Smith and Drew Hind had a goal and an assist, and Cooper Freeman scored one goal.

Randolph’s James Beightol made one save in the shutout effort.

Randolph (1-1-0) is back in action on Tuesday when it entertains Pine Valley/Gowanda/Dunkirk. Silver Creek/Forestville (0-1-0) hosts Cassadaga Valley/Falconer on Friday.

TUESDAY

T’BIRDS OPEN WITH WIN

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake opened its season with a 6-0 nonleague boys soccer victory over Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Carson D’Anthony led the way offensively as he scored a hat trick and assisted on another goal. Ian Riedesel also collected a goal and an assist, Devin Putney and Jalen Parkhurst both scored one goal, and Caleb Prewitt and Elias Quintero each had an assist.

Chautauqua Lake (1-0) is back in action on Friday when it hosts Jamestown for another nonleauge game. Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley (0-2) will try to get into the win column for its next game on Tuesday at home against Ellicottville.

GIRLS SOCCER

MARAUDERS TRIM MG

DUNKIRK — Dunkirk defeated Maple Grove 1-0 in a nonleague girls soccer game on Wednesday.

The Marauders’ offense broke through in the 13th minute of the first half with a goal from Shyla Karin assisted by Siera Jacques. The Marauders managed to hold off the Red Dragons offense to get the shutout.

Dunkirk (2-0-0) will begin its league schedule in its next game on Friday at Allegany-Limestone. Maple Grove (0-1-0) begins league play on Friday at home against Frewsburg.

EAGLES POST ROAD WIN

BUFFALO — North Collins defeated Buffalo Seminary in a nonleague girls soccer game, 6-0.

The Eagles were led by a Lina Young hat trick and goals from Jaylee Jimerson, Breanna Kaczanowski and Autumn Awald. Young and Kaczanowski both contributed two assists.

North Collins (3-0-0) is back in action Friday when it hosts Chautauqua Lake.

TUESDAY

BLACK NIGHTS PREVAIL

SILVER CREEK — Silver Creek/Forestville posted a 4-1 win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley for its first win of the season.

Abby Rice opened the scoring in the fourth minute on an assist from Karli Deet. Ten minutes later, Deet scored her own unassisted goal to make the score 2-0 at the break.

Rice again opened the scoring of the second half and Jade Bouvier completed the scoring for the Black Knights at the 25-minute mark.

The Timberwolves converted a late penalty kick after a hand ball in the box, to ruin Silver Creek’s “clean sheet.”

Cam Karcz made seven saves in the net for the Black Knights.

The Lady Knights will return to the pitch today for a 5:30 start and will host Wilson on Senior Recognition Night.

VOLLEYBALL

EAGLES SWEEP

NORTH COLLINS — North Collins began its season by defeating Silver Creek, 25-6, 25-17, and 25-19.

Cate Ayers had 12 assists and five aces; Makenzie Jaworski and MaKenna Rice each had seven kills; and Michaela Rice added six kills.

North Collins is back in action on Friday in Salamanca and Silver Creek travels to Pine Valley.

PINE VALLEY PREVAILS

SOUTH DAYTON — Pine Valley defeated Cattaraugus Little Valley, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.

Pine Valley (2-0) is back in action on Friday when it host Silver Creek.

GOWANDA HOLDS ON

GOWANDA — Gowanda defeated Randolph, 25-22, 25-23, 12-25, 19-25, 25-19.

Gowanda (1-1) is back in action Friday at Ellicottville and Randolph (1-2) travels to Cattaraugus-Little Valley on Friday.

ELLICOTTVILLE WINS

SALAMANCA — Ellicottville upended Salamanca, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21.

Jillian Rea had four aces, three kills and four assists; Karina Crouse added two aces and two kills; Marijah Skye collected two aces and three kills; and Bella Wolfe added a pair of aces for the Warriors (0-1).

TUESDAY

T’BIRDS PREVAIL

SHERMAN — Chautauqua Lake defeated Clymer/Sherman in CCAA West II action, 25-7, 25-17, and 25-19.

The Thunderbirds were led by Ava Olson with four aces, six digs, and six assists. Lily Woodis added five kills and four blocks and Jenna Waters had nine digs.

Clymer/Sherman was led by Hayden Fisher with seven digs, three kills and two blocks. Mikala Einink contributed eight assists with Reagan Bates and Erica Frank contributing four digs apiece.

Chautauqua Lake (1-0) is back in action today when it hosts Brocton, while Clymer/Sherman (1-1) travels to Westfield today.
