T’Birds fall to Gators in OT
MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds fell to the Allegany-Limestone Gators 46-39 in overtime of a nonleague girls basketball game Tuesday night.
The contest was tight all the way through, but Chautauqua Lake (1-3) found itself down five headed into the fourth quarter. The Thunderbirds outscored Allegany-Limestone in that final frame 13-7 to force the overtime period, but they were unable to maintain the momentum necessary to cap off the victory. It was all Allegany-Limestone (2-5) in the overtime period, as it outscored Chautauqua Lake 9-2.
“It was tough for us coming off a 10-day pause,” stated Chautauqua Lake head coach Bill Persons. “We didn’t shoot very well, we didn’t have a single three. Defensively we played pretty well. They had a couple cleaner looks in the overtime.”
Lily Woodis stood out for the Thunderbirds, scoring 15 points, grabbing eight rebounds, making three blocks and collecting six steals; Mercedez Obert added 9 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
Madison Callen grabbed 11 rebounds for the Gators and scored 10 points while Gianna DeRose had a team-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
