Jayhawks dominate the glass, last three quarters in home victory

JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team got off to a slow start in Wednesday’s NJCAA Region 3 Division II basketball game.

The Jayhawks more than made up for lost time.

Hannah Hicks poured in 23 points and grabbed 26 rebounds, and Dunkirk native Kymi Nance scored 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals to pace Jamestown CC to an 80-45 victory over Monroe CC at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, but put the game away with a 47-19 run in the middle two periods to raise their record to 11-12 overall and 2-2 in Region 3 Division II.

Also turning in fine efforts for the winners were D’Auzhanay Harden with 19 points, seven assists and six steals; Zalika Stevens with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists; and Sydney Burk with 5 points, 10 boards and three assists. As a team, the Jayhawks hauled down 69 rebounds.

Natalina Rainford scored 16 points and Jordan Loewke added 10 for the Tribunes (2-11, 0-4).
