WESTFIELD — Chad Ball and Tim Carrol defeated Joe Majkut and Chris Barrett in the finals of the Pinehurst Golf Club Winter Golf League.

Monday Night Vineyards Utility Golf League

A meeting of the Monday Night Vineyards Utility Golf League will be held at 5 p.m. May 2 at the Vineyards Golf Course.

If the weather cooperates, the league will open with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. May 9.

There is room for a few more golfers and subs, so anyone interested is asked to call Bob Manning at 679-5799 or John Lakas at 679-6890.

Wednesday Travel League opens at Cable Hollow

RUSSELL, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League got the 2022 season rolling at Cable Hollow Golf Course.

Wayne Stoughton shot the low round of 80 to earn the first tour victory of the season. Last year’s overall points champion, Ed Tofil, was runner-up with 83, and Bob Thompson finished third with 85.

Bob North and Tofil were low on the front nine with 40 while Stoughton was low on the back nine with 38. John Waterman and Joe Bifaro won the B and C flights respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s award was Jaime Galarza.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, Josh Hilliker (Nos. 2, 4), Stoughton (Nos. 3, 11, 13, 16, 17), Thompson (No. 5), Bob North (No. 6), and Ed Tofil (Nos. 9, 10); B Flight, Gary Richardson (Nos. 5, 6), Mike Wolfe (No. 9), Waterman (No. 14), and Dave Wallace (No. 15); and C Flight, Don Kujawa (No. 3), John Tofil (No.7), Bifaro (Nos. 9, 11, 17), Galarza (No. 12), and Jack Hood (No.13).

Closest to the pin were Tom Destro (No. 2), Thompson (No. 5, 51/2 inches from the cup), Bifaro (No. 11) and Stoughton (No. 17).

Winners of the Steeplechase were Thompson (A Flight), Mick Dunning Sr. (B Flight), and Pat Weaver (C Flight).

Top point winners were Stoughton (76), Thompson (44), Hilliker (32) and Bifaro (28).

Next week the league is tentatively scheduled to return to Cable Hollow for a 10 a.m. start, weather permitting. Golfers should text or call 785-2291 by 9 Monday morning, when a decision will be made whether or not an event will be held.
