Section VI Class B Track & Field Championships

FALCONER — The Golden Cougars boys sure felt right at home on Friday.

Devin Austin, Collin Riel and Joe Krenzer felt especially comfortable.

The result?

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley left Bill Race Field on the campus of Falconer Central School with 134.75 points and a comfortable victory in the Section VI Class B Track & Field Championships.

Austin won the high jump (6 feet), the long jump (21-6) and the triple jump (44-3.5); Riel sped to first-place finishes in the 100 meters (11.19) and the 200 meters (23.05); and Krenzer crossed the finish line ahead of the field in the 1,600 meters (4:41.57) and the 3,200 meters (10:22.90).

Joining the Golden Cougars among the top five boys teams were Alden (94 points), Lake Shore (65.75), Albion (51.75) and Fredonia (48).

The Hillbillies were the other area boys team that featured some outstanding performances.

Ledreth Velez-Olmo captured the 400 meters (50.76); Alex Field won the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.48;) and the 1,600-meter relay team was victorious with a time of 3:35.94.

In the girls competition, Newfane was the champion with 151 points. The other top-five schools were Springville (98), Akron (81), City Honors (58), and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (38) and Lake Shore (38). Fredonia, the remaining area school was eighth with 23 points.

The top finishers for the Golden Cougars were Hannah Madonia, second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.7); Ella Eckstrom, third in the triple jump (32-10.25); Autumn Lynn, third in the shot put (30-1); and Grace Lundmark, fourth in the discus (88-11).
