Lawrie, Dunkirk 4×4 relay take first at Houghton

HOUGHTON — Landon Stormer won two individual events, while five other area athletes claimed one apiece at the Section VI A/B Interdivisional indoor track & field meet at Houghton University on Friday.

Stormer, a member of the Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph team, crossed the finish line first in the 55 meters (6.63) and the 300 meters (36.51).

Other first-place finishers were Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Talon Rowland in the 600 meters (1:26.66), Juvenal Diaz-Cortes in the 1,000 meters (2:41.77), Brandon Devereaux in the 55-meter hurdles (8.40) and the 4×200-meter relay (1:35.79); and Franklinville’s Tyyetta Herman in the 55 meters (7.57).

Recording second-place finishes were Jarren Cotter of Jamestown in the 300 meters (36.79); Sean Verbosky of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 3,200 meters (10:05.19); Jamestown’s 4×200-meter relay (1:37.28); Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s 4×800-meter relay (8:52.83); Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Jonah Foley in the high jump (6-2); Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Charles Sundqquist in the weight throw (43-3); Jamestown’s Madison Burgess in the 300 meters (43.28); Jamestown’s Emily Cardinale in the pole vault (9-0); and Jamestown’s Alivia Wofford in the weight throw (32-1.25).

The area third-place finishers were Noah Burch of Jamestown in the 300 meters (37.11); Ethan Verbosky of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 1,600 meters (4:42.10); Cody Kent of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 3,200 meters (10:07.69); Zayne Cline of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 55-meter hurdles (8:59); Gavin Stearns of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the high jump (6-0); Belle Johnson of Jamestown in the 1,000 meters (3:23.45) and Sopheia Nelson-Bennett of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 1,500-meter race walk (9:16.31).

SATURDAY

SECTION VI CLASS C/D INTERDIVISONAL

HOUGHTON — Lucas Lawrie of Dunkirk headlined the local athletes’ performances on Saturday by finishing first in the boys 300 meters with a time of 37.47.

Also claiming first place was the Dunkirk boys 4×400-meter relay (3:39.28).

In girls results, Dunkirk’s 4×800-meter relay finished third with a time of 11:56.02.
