Danielle West, Vivien Libby earn First-Team nods in D2 East

The Pine Valley girls basketball team lost just once in league action, finishing 9-1 to claim the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 East title.

Finishing ahead of Ellicottville which posted an 8-2 record, Pine Valley head coach Zachary Len and Eagles head coach Tracy Rozler shared the Coach of the Year award.

Paving the way to a league title was junior Danielle West scoring 18.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 5.4 steals and 3.3 assists, while senior Vivien Libby provided 11.9 points per game, 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists. Both players were selected to represent the Panthers on the league’s First Team.

Pine Valley senior Alyssa West was named to the Second Team, Sarah Kruszka and Jessina Miller earned Honorable Mention, and Miller was also the sportsmanship selection for the Panthers.

Finishing right behind Pine Valley, Ellicottville also received two First Team selections in senior Dalayla Alexander and junior Natalee Leiper. Alexander scored 11.2 points per game, 6 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 3.1 assists, while Leiper scored 13.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.6 assists.

Ellicottville sophomore Ande Northrup was named a Second Team all-star, Keelin Finn earned Honorable Mention and was the sportsmanship selection.

Franklinville was unable to get past Pine Valley and Ellicottville, but no team could slow down senior Sofia Bentley scoring 18.8 points per game, 4.4 steals, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists to earn the Player of the Year award.

Franklinville senior Olivia Frank earned a spot on the First Team scoring 10.2 points per game, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 3.1 assists, seventh-grader Grace Cornell was named to the Second Team, Hailey Rzucek earned Honorable Mention and Luciana Marchese was the sportsmanship selection.

Forestville sophomore Carilene Sliwa was the youngest player to make the First Team after scoring 15.4 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 6.8 steals and 0.7 assists. Forestville freshman Ingrid Gibson earned Honorable Mention and Jill Grupa was the sportsmanship selection.

North Collins senior Cate Ayers and Cattaraugus-Little Valley sophomore Rebekah Butcher rounded out the Second Team and both were the sportsmanship selection for their respective teams, with Butcher also receiving the overall league Sportsmanship Award.

Kadie Benzel earned Honorable Mention for the Timberwolves, while Cattaraugus-Little Valley received the Team Sportsmanship award.
