Lucas, Fredonia roll Gators in D1 West

Jordan Lucas started her senior year in style Monday.

Fredonia’s ace right-hander threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Hillbillies beat Allegany-Limestone 8-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball.

Lucas walked three and hit a batter while allowing just an unearned run.

Fredonia jumped on top early as Lucas led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored on a pair of passed balls. The Hillbillies (1-0, 1-0) took a 2-0 lead in the second as Ellie VanDette was hit by a pitch and eventually got to third on a pair of bunts before scoring on a passed ball.

The Gators (3-3, 1-1) scored their only run in the top of the third. Abby Peck walked to open the frame and Kendall Lemon followed with a single for Allegany-Limestone’s only hit of the game before Peck scored on a two-out error.

Fredonia answered with a four-run bottom of the third. Danielle Palisin singled and Callie Draggett walked before VanDette was hit by another pitch to load the bases. Sophia Gullo then hit a bases-clearing triple and later scored on an error to make it 6-1.

Naomi Muck doubled home Gullo in the fifth before Palisin walked and eventually scored on a passed ball in the sixth for the Hillbillies’ final two runs.

TROJANS ONE-HIT JAMESTOWN

JAMESTOWN — Madi Burnett threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Southwestern blanked Jamestown 12-0 in six innings of Division 1 West play at the Martin Road Athletic Complex.

Burnett walked three and hit a batter, allowing just a third-inning single to the Red & Green’s Alyson Canfield.

Alexis Beckerink and Peyton Lillie led a 15-hit attack for the Trojans (2-2, 1-1). Beckerink was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and Lille was 3 for 4, including a double, with three RBIs.

Siri DuBois tripled, doubled, drove in a run and scored three runs, while Arianna Silakowski was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Southwestern, which put the game away with a four-run sixth inning.

Kaylee Keppel struck out five in the circle for Jamestown (0-1, 0-1).

BLACK KNIGHTS FALL TO LAKE SHORE

SILVER CREEK — The potential winning run got to the plate in the seventh inning for Silver Creek, but the Black Knights ultimately fell to Lake Shore 6-4 in nonleague action.

Kyla Ziegler drove in three runs, while Rylee Weiskerger and Steph VanCheri each had two hits for Silver Creek (3-1, 0-0 CCAA D1 East).

Brooke Delprince had two hits and Liz Jarzynski had two RBIs for the Eagles (2-0, 1-0 ECIC D3). Delprince and Jordyn Colvin each scored twice.

HUSKIES TOP MARAUDERS

DUNKIRK — Olean led 7-0 after two innings and beat Dunkirk 9-1 in Division 1 West play.

“Our defense greatly improved after the first two innings,” Marauders (0-2, 0-1) head coach Aldyn Carlson said. “The team is working together and learning as they get more experience playing. I am excited to see the progress our team makes throughout the year.”

PANAMA STEADIES TO BEAT PV

SOUTH DAYTON — Panama fell behind 5-0 in the first inning, but held Pine Valley scoreless the remainder of the game en route to a 19-5 nonleague victory.

Jessica Lyon allowed six hits and five walks while striking out two in the circle for Panama (1-0).

Corinne Hovey and Kaitlyn Horton each had two hits, including a triple; Cassie Lyon and Sharayah Fuller each had two singles; Emma Cooper tripled; and Jessica Lyon, Kylie Morgan, Kylie Range and Kiera Loberg each singled for Panama.

Danica Farnham struck out five in the circle for Pine Valley (0-2). Sandra Ivett had two hits, Danielle West doubled, and Farnham and Jessina Miller each singled.

BEARS HOLD OFF COUGARS

SINCLAIRVILLE — Paige Whippo went 3 for 3 with a double as Frewsburg held off Cassadaga Valley for a 6-5 Division 2 West victory.

Teghan Trocki threw five innings, striking out five and walking two before Teagan Nazario got the final six outs for the Bears (2-0, 1-0).

Andrea Johnson went 3 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs while also striking out five in the circle for the Cougars (1-2, 0-1). Emiley Anderson and Denza Fanara were both 2 for 3.

GNADZINSKI POWERS WOLVERINES

BEMUS POINT — Eva Gnadzinski homered and drove in three runs as Westfield beat Maple Grove 19-7 in Division 2 West action.

Mackenzie Schumaker went 4 for 5 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored; Tanleigh Bestine had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run; Charly Mathews had two hits and three RBIs; Sydney Hotchkiss doubled and scored three runs; and Brynn Ernewein doubled and scored two runs for the Wolverines (2-1, 2-0), who led 15-1 after three innings.

Gnadzinski, Schumaker and Avery Smith combined on a six-hitter with four strikeouts in the circle.

Harper Dawes doubled and scored two runs, while Alex Caldwell singled and drove in two runs for the Red Dragons (0-2, 0-1). Lydia Darr struck out five in the circle.
