Szymanowski makes history for CLCS girls wrestling by signing first college commitment

Madison Szymanowski will make history as the first female wrestler from Chautauqua Lake High School to commit to a college wrestling program. Szymanowski began wrestling in the inaugural 2021-22 season of the women’s wrestling program at Chautauqua Lake. A quiet leader, she has grown with the program, amassing 43 wins and 28 pins over her three-year career. She took home championship medals at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament and the Lady Jack Tournament in her second year with the program, as well as qualifying for the NYSPHSAA championships in that same year. Szymanowski’s teammates and coaches count on her as a calming presence and a deceivingly fierce competitor on the mat. During her senior season, she was approached by head coach Steve Hart to wrestle for Buffalo State University’s first women’s wrestling season in 2024-25. She will wrestle there next year with an impressive roster of young women from all over the country, and continue her education as an adolescent English education major.
