Fredonia baseball gets past Hutch Tech 7-2

Fredonia broke open a 2-2 tie with a five-run sixth inning en route to a 7-2 nonleague baseball win over Hutch Tech on Friday.

The Hillbillies’ A.J. Kinney threw the opening four innings of one-hit ball, striking out nine and walking four. He left with a 2-0 lead. Luca Gullo earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four.

Fredonia (2-2) went up 1-0 in the first inning when Matt Cowan walked and later scored on a two-out wild pitch.

In the fourth, the Hillbillies’ Brady Helmer reached on a two-out single, stole second and third, and scored when the throw went into left field.

Hutch Tech (2-2) tied it in the top of the fifth inning. After a walk, Joseph Platt doubled to put runners at second and third before Nate Mulligan hit a two-run double.

Fredonia regained the lead in the sixth. Andrew Cowan doubled to center field and Colin Crowell hit an RBI single before Luca Gullo’s RBI double. Gullo then stole third and scored on an error, Helmer singled and stole second, Ashton Putney drew a bases-loaded walk, and Brady Crawford scored on an error.
