Records fall in Falconer

Weather delay worth the wait at Bill Race Field

FALCONER — Six meet records fell at the Golden Falcon Track & Field Invitational at Bill Race Field on Friday and three of them were broken by Southwestern athletes.

Trojans junior Mikayla Johnson broke a 20-year-old mark in the shot put. Johnson threw 40 feet, 8.25 inches, easily clearing the old record of 37 feet, 9.25 inches. Johnson also won the discus with a heave of 126 feet, 7 inches.

Southwestern senior Connor Young broke a 15-year-old record in the long jump. Young reached 21 feet, 6 inches, which was 1 inch farther than the old record of 21 feet, 5 inches.

Trojans sophomore Emma Lewis broke a 10-year-old record in the 3,000 meters. Lewis finished in 10:10.19, just over a second faster than the old mark of 10:11.23.

Randolph senior Caden Inkley broke a 12-year-old record in the pole vault. After reaching the old record height of 13 feet, 6 inches, Inkley cleared 14 feet.

Jamestown’s 400-meter relay team of Angel Martinez, Ayden Samuelson, Cameron Burgess and Jarren Cotter broke a 17-year-old record. The Red & Green quartet crossed the finish line in 43.3 seconds, just over a half-second faster than the old time of 43.84 seconds.

Finally, the St. Francis team of Dalton Pelow, Brayden Mahoney, Dominic Davis and Michael Stadler broke a 10-year-old mark in the 1,600-meter relay. The St. Francis quartet finished in 3:26.87, breaking the old mark of 3:27.20.

Southwestern won the girls team title with 120.50 points, followed by East Aurora (115) and Iroquois (50.5).

Jamestown won the boys team title with 93 points, edging out St. Francis (91) and Iroquois (55).

Southwestern juniors Leo Kavic and Tyler McIntyre gave the Trojans a sweep of the boys and girls shot put and discus. Kavic tossed the shot put 50 feet, 5.75 inches and McIntyre reached 143 feet, 8 inches in the discus.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama swept the boys and girls high jump. Senior Isa Kioko reached 5 feet, 3 inches for the girls and fellow senior Alex Barmore reached 6 feet for the boys.

Randolph senior Caden Inkley and Jamestown senior Emily Cardinale won the boys and girls pole vault, respectively. Inkley cleared 14 feet and Cardinale cleared 10 feet.

Southwestern sophomore Marlana Cresanti won the 800 meters in 2:24.82 and Trojans junior M’Kenzie Zavala claimed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.51.

Jamestown senior Jarren Cotter captured the 100-meter dash in 11.24 seconds.

Salamanca senior Ryanna Brady won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:40.55, Silver Creek/Forestville freshman Leah Mays won the 1,500 meters in 5:02.39, Cattaraugus-Little Valley senior Emma Gassman won the 200-meter dash in 27.2 seconds and Clymer/Sherman/Panama junior Lily Johnson won the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 8.5 inches.

Franklinville/Ellicottville junior Grant Cornell won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:48.11.

Southwestern’s team of Avery Johnson, Tryniti Card, Lewis and Marlana Cresanti won the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9:33.05.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s team of Natalie Dossey, Hannah Madonia, Mary Lundmark and Julianna Roth won the 400-meter relay in 52.01 seconds.

Southwestern’s team of Zavala, Avery Johnson, Card and Cresanti also won the 1,600-meter relay in 4:12.67.
