Dunkirk’s Lemanski, Fredonia’s Putney share CCAA D1 POY honors

Dunkirk capped its Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 and Section VI Class A2 championship baseball season by dominating the top honors on the CCAA D1 All-Star teams.

The Marauders’ Josh Lemanski, a senior shortstop/pitcher, shared the Al Stuhlmiller Player-of-the-Year honors with Fredonia senior shortstop/pitcher Ashton Putney.

Dunkirk senior Greg Orcutt was the Roger K. Moore Pitcher of the Year and his coach, Frank Jagoda — who reached the 400 career win mark during the season — was named the Coach of the Year.

The Marauders placed three players on the first team — junior first baseman/pitcher Anthony Cosme, senior second baseman/outfielder Paul Trippy and senior catcher Gabe Valentine. Southwestern also had three players selected to the first team. They were freshman outfielder/pitcher Wilson Genareo, senior shortstop Judd Harris and sophomore infielder Oscar Harris.

Fredonia, Salamanca and Olean all had two first-teamers. They were senior catcher Andrew Cowan and sophomore first baseman/pitcher Matt Cowan of the Hillbillies; junior catcher Payton Bradley and senior shortstop/outfielder Jacob Herrick of the Warriors; and junior infielder Austin Miles and senior shortstop Chase Vogtli of the Huskies.

Senior shortstop Vin LaBella of Allegany-Limestone rounded out the first team.

The second-team all-stars include senior outfielder Henry Leone of Dunkirk; senior designated hitter Colin Crowell and junior outfielder Colin Luce of Fredonia; sophomore outfielder Cooper Charles and junior catcher George Marshall of Southwestern; senior infielder/pitcher Cory Holleran and senior third baseman/pitcher Zach Trietley of Salamanca; sophomore pitcher Noah Cartmill, junior catcher Caine DeGolier and sophomore outfielder Landon Johnson of Olean; and senior infielder Caleb Strade of Allegany-Limestone.

Earning honorable mention were junior Anthony Piede, junior Alex Biscaro and Davion Alvalle of Dunkirk; senior Luca Gullo and junior Brady Crawford of Fredonia; senior Robbie Bellardo and freshman Lucas Genareo of Southwestern; senior Kruz Coustenis and senior Conner Seeley of Salamanca; sophomore Ethan Woodring of Olean; and senior Khyree Harmon of Allegany-Limestone.

Junior Brendon Ghani of Salamanca was the recipient of the Pete Criscione Sportsmanship Award.

Other sportsmanship honorees were senior Josh Smith of Dunkirk, senior Andrew Cowan of Fredonia, junior Michael Rambacher of Southwestern, junior Grady Smucinski of Olean and sophomore Dylan Rhodes of Allegany-Limestone.
