JAMESTOWN — The postgame song booming from the loudspeakers at Diethrick Park on Thursday night — courtesy of Bachman-Turner Overdrive — was right on the money.

Spot on, actually.

Because “Taking Care of Business” is precisely what Jamestown did.

Four pitchers combined on a five-hitter and were the beneficiaries of three hits from Nolan Smith, and two apiece from Jakob Haynes, Brady McGuire and Dom Costello as Jamestown rolled past Niagara Falls 9-0 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action before a crowd of 434.

The win improved the Tarps Skunks — winners of two straight — to 7-6 while the Americans dropped to 7-6. The two teams are tied for fifth place in the West Division, 3 ½ games behind first-place Newark (7-2-1).

The Tarp Skunks put the game away early, scoring two runs in the first inning on McGuire’s two-run single, and four more in the third, highlighted by Haynes’ RBI triple, Justin Bremner’s fielder’s choice, McGuire’s run-scoring double and Brady Marshall’s RBI groundout.

Armed with a 6-0 lead, it was more than enough for starter Cohen Harris (four innings, one hit, two strikeouts, two walks) and relievers Nick Ianniello (3-0), Colin Bolla and Quinten Shewmaker.

Jamestown manager Frank Jagoda certainly liked what he saw in the contest that lasted just 2 hours, 21 minutes.

“(Harris) set the pace early and pounded the zone with strikes,” Jagoda said. “I think when we do that we’re going to be a competitive team each and every time out.”

Jamestown tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Smith and Bremner and one more in the seventh when Smith scored on a wild pitch. All told, the Tarp Skunks collected 11 hits after having 10 in a 14-6 win at Niagara Falls on Wednesday.

“Hitters kind of feed off each other,” Jagoda said. “When one guy’s going, the next guy’s going and that’s how you develop a good baseball team and a winning culture. I think these guys are starting to figure that out a little bit.”

Niagara Falls’ lone threats came in the first inning and again in the third when a runner reached third base, but didn’t score. The Americans also left runners stranded at first and second in the eighth inning, but couldn’t push across a run.

NOTES: Plenty of area natives saw action for Jamestown last night, including Chase Haglund (Frewsburg), Branston Lindquist (Falconer) and Blake Herman (Gowanda). Meanwhile, John Ondus (Gowanda) came on in relief of Niagara Falls’ losing pitcher Robert Leach (1-1), who worked three innings and allowed one run, two hits, struck out three and walked one among his 49 pitches. … The Tarp Skunks travel to Batavia tonight and then will be at home at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Batavia and at 4 p.m. Sunday in a doubleheader against Elmira. They close out their homestand at 6:30 p.m. Monday against Batavia.
