Tarp Skunks suffer three losses over weekend
AUBURN — Kieran Kehoe’s walk-off single drove in Tommy Kirwan with the winning run as the Auburn Doubledays rallied to sweep a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader from the Jamestown Tarp Skunks on Sunday at Falcon Park.
In Game 2, Auburn led 4-1 after the first inning, but Jamestown’s Justin Bremner hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game.
The Tarp Skunks then took a 7-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning of the seven-inning game only to see that lead evaporate in the bottom of the sixth inning before losing in the seventh.
Brady Berdine took the loss for Jamestown, inducing a flyout to start the seventh inning before allowing a single, intentionally walking a batter and hitting a batter. Kehoe then won the game with his single to right field.
Daniel Thomas started for Jamestown and allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in two innings. Jasean Brown pitched the middle four innings, allowing three unearned runs on a hit and three walks while striking out three.
Nolan Smith went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base; Brady McGuire singled, drove in a run and scored three runs; Bremner had two hits, four RBIs and a run scored; and Dom Costello was 2 for 4 with a run scored for the Tarp Skunks.
In Game 1 of the doubleheader, a 4-2 Auburn victory, Jamestown led 1-0 through three innings before the Doubledays scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Tarp Skunks scored in the top of the seventh, but stranded a runner on second to end the game.
Jamestown starter Hunter Bell took the loss, allowing all four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one. Landon Castor and Cole Schwochow combined for two-plus innings of scoreless relief.
Jakob Haynes and Ty Lagoni each drove in a run for the Tarp Skunks. Brady Marshall had a pair of hits and Nathan Borchardt doubled.
On Saturday, Jamestown led 2-0 entering the ninth inning before falling 3-2 to the Batavia Muckdogs.
Christian Pencek tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five. Anthony Serrano was only able to get two outs in the ninth before allowing three runs on two hits and three walks.
Eric Weeks went 2 for 3 with a solo home run; Haynes doubled and drove in a run; and Bremner singled and scored a run.
Jamestown returns to action Wednesday at Niagara Falls before hosting the Americans at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
