“Howard Ehmke Day” was held Sunday afternoon in Jamestown where family, friends, and representatives of Ehmke Manufacturing Company Inc. in Philadelphia honored the Silver Creek native, Major League Baseball pitcher and World Series hero at the Robert H. Jackson Center. Included in the celebration was a display of Ehmke memorabilia. Above is a photo of Ehmke with the Philadelphia A’s manager Connie Mack in 1926. In photos below, clockwise from top left, Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame president Randy Anderson shows off the commemorative Ehmke patch that the Jamestown Tarp Skunks are wearing on their uniform sleeve; Ehmke family and friends gather for a group photo; Ehmke Manufacturing Company Inc. president and CEO Bob Rosania throws out the first pitch at Diethrick Park; a 1932 baseball glove, endorsed by Ehmke, is on display; and a newspaper headline from 1929 tells of Ehmke’s World Series heroics.
