Nelson, Crabtree win ‘Cousin Eddie Invitational’
The Wednesday Travel League held its 11th annual Ohio trip on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, in Hubbard, Ohio, the eighth annual “Cousin Eddie Invitational” was held at Pine Lakes Golf Club.
This year’s winning two-man team (low net) was Jeff Nelson and 12-year-old Carter Crabtree. In second place was the team of Robert Calph and Dan Kaszuba.
In the A Flight, Dave Wallace won the low net, with Nelson finishing second. Both Wallace and Nelson tied for low scratch with 76s. Nelson shot a 2-under par 34 to lead the front nine and Wallace led the back nine with 40. Untied birdies were recorded by Bob Thompson (No. 9) and John Waterman (No. 15).
In the B Flight, Lenny Leszkowicz won the low net, with Kaszuba finishing second. Leszkowicz and Mike Willoughby tied for low scratch with 89. Willoughby led the front nine with 41 and Jack Hood led the back nine with 46. Untied birdies were recorded by Crabtree (Nos. 1 and 14), Leszkowicz (Nos. 3 and 13) and Willoughby (No. 9).
Closest to the pin were: Don Kujawa (No. 3), Jason Habich (Nos. 6 and 16) and Willoughby (No. 12).
The top point-winning team was Thompson and Bob Kujawa. Nelson and Crabtree finished second.
This year’s winner of the prestigious “Cousin Eddie Trophy” was Dave Wallace.
On Wednesday, the league held its regular Wednesday Travel League event at Knoll Run Golf Course in Lowellville, Ohio.
Dave Wallace earned his first tour victory of the season with the low round of 78. Jeff Nelson finished second, a stroke back with 79. In a three-way tie for third place with 80 were Robert Calph, Ed Tofil, and John Waterman. Wallace shot an even-par 36 to lead the front nine and Nelson led the back nine with 38.
In the B Flight, Pat Weaver won on a second-hole tiebreaker over Jason Habich. In the C Flight, Phil Hopkins won on the first tiebreaker hole over Bob Thompson and Frank Benamati. The low Senior score was recorded by Jack Hood. The winner of the Bruce”Java” Chrabasz Commissioners Award was Dan Kaszuba.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Tofil (No. 4), Wallace (No. 6), Calph (Nos. 7 and 15) and Waterman (Nos. 11, 12 and 18); B Flight — Habich (Nos. 4 and 9), Carter Crabtree (Nos. 8 and 11) and Dennis Gawronski Sr. (Nos. 12 and 13); C Flight — Pete Pinkoski (Nos. 3 and 13), Joe Bifaro (Nos. 5 and 8), Thompson (Nos. 7 and 15), Bill Lanski (No. 11), Bob Kujawa (No. 12) and Hopkins (No. 17).
Closest to the pin were: Lenny Leszkowicz (Nos. 5 and 9), Calph (No. 11) and Waterman (No. 18). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Waterman (A Flight), Willoughby (B) and Thompson (C).
