IROQUOIS DOMINATES SECOND HALF

ELMA — Iroquois outscored Dunkirk 27-0 in the second half en route to a 48-14 Class B2 victory Friday night.

After the Redhawks took a 7-0 lead, the Marauders’ Liam McQuiggan returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown and Anthony Piede added the point-after kick to tie the game.

Iroquois later took a 21-7 lead, but Piede ran for an 8-yard touchdown to make it 21-14 heading into halftime after his second PAT.

But the Redhawks scored the only 27 points after halftime to win going away.

“We shot ourselves in the foot,” Dunkirk head coach Edwin Gomez said. “Penalties made it difficult for us to move the ball. It went downhill from there.”

Defensively for the Marauders, Jordan Thomas-Smith forced a fumble that was recovered by Aries Cheverez on the first drive of the game.

Dunkirk will head to East Aurora on Thursday.

“Injuries have been plaguing us this whole season,” Gomez added.

CARDINALS EDGE BLACK KNIGHTS

SILVER CREEK — The Randolph defense came up big against Silver Creek/Forestville, limiting the Black Knights to just one score as the Cardinals held on for a 15-6 Class D victory.

The Cardinals scored their only offensive touchdown in the second quarter when Jaxson Morrison reached paydirt on a 4-yard quarterback keeper which he followed up with a 2-point conversion.

That’s all Randolph would need as it limited the Black Knights to just one score, despite being outgained by 117 yards.

Silver Creek/Forestville (0-3, 0-2) nearly brought the game level in the third quarter when Manny Sanchez punched in a 2-yard rushing touchdown, but the Black Knights failed on the 2-point conversion.

The Black Knights were led on the ground by Sanchez with 59 yards on 14 attempts and Caleb Kimmerly added another 51 on eight rushes.

Then through the air, Will Duliba was 13 of 27 for 97 yards with an interception. Duliba’s top target was Jake Anders with 53 yards on six receptions.

Randolph won the turnover battle as Alex Garland picked off Duliba and then protected it when holding possession.

The Cardinals (3-0, 2-0) were led on the ground by Kevin McElwain with 47 yards on 10 attempts and Morrison added another 24 on seven rushes.

Randolph’s biggest play of the game came on special teams in the fourth quarter when Garland returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown and provided some relief in a hard fought 15-6 victory.
