Falconer sweeps Marauders

FALCONER — Emily Zaranek served up 11 aces and Hannah Melquist had seven aces as Falconer coasted past Dunkirk for a 25-5, 25-10, 25-4 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 volleyball win Monday.
Emily Zaranek also had seven kills; Melquist had six kills, six digs and two assists; Reagan Trask had 15 assists and two aces; Mylie Zaranek had six kills and two aces; and Payton Smith had four aces for the Golden Falcons (9-2, 6-1).
The Marauders fell to 1-11 overall and 0-8 in the league.
MAINES SHINES FOR GOWANDA
GOWANDA — Bella Maines handed out 23 assists to go along with six digs, three aces and a kill as Gowanda swept West Valley/Franklinville 25-12, 25-11, 25-7 in Division 2 action.
Corrina John had 10 kills, four digs, four aces and a block; Addison Kota had eight digs, five aces, three kills and two assists; and Maleina Moses and Envy Cross had seven kills apiece for Gowanda (8-1, 7-0).
West Valley/Franklinville fell to 0-7 overall and in the league.
GATORS WIN IN SWEEP
ELLICOTTVILLE — Allegany-Limestone swept Ellicottville 25-16, 25-18, 25-13 to improve to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in Division 2.
For the Eagles (7-4, 3-4), Izzy Coburn had six kills, five digs and an ace; Riley Whitmer had five kills, 10 digs, a block, an ace and an assist; and Ande Northrup had 10 assists, nine digs, four kills and an ace.
HAYNES POWERS PORTVILLE
FREDONIA — Ali Haynes had 17 kills, four aces, three digs and three blocks while Addie Walker handed out 31 assists to go along with four digs and two kills as Portville swept Fredonia 25-20, 25-13, 25-15 in Division 1 action.
Ava Scanlon had four kills; Gaitley Maiolo had seven kills and two digs; Mia Rhinehart had 13 digs, three aces and two assists; and Leigh Stives had five kills, four aces, three digs and two blocks for the Panthers (10-0, 8-0).
“We played a sloppy match, especially the first set. Not sure if the girls were still tired from their tournament this weekend?,” Portville head coach Paul Mann said. “They faced some of the top teams in the state, but that’s not what we looked like tonight. At the end of the day, an ugly win is still a win.”
Londyn Wilmot had six kills, an ace and two blocks for the Hillbillies (4-6, 3-4).
TROJANS EDGE RED & GREEN
WEST ELLICOTT — Juliet Genareo delivered seven kills as Southwestern swept Jamestown 25-19, 25-17, 26-24 in Division 1 action.
Madi Burnett also had seven kills for Southwestern (5-6, 3-4). Anna Conley made 10 digs; Gianna Sirianni had five kills and eight digs; Brooke Pfeiffer made eight digs; and Elise Kartesz had 11 assists.
Jamestown (1-10, 1-6) was led by Remy Anderson with nine kills, a dig, an ace and two blocks. Abby Vogan made 19 digs and four aces; Aiyanna Stam had 10 kills, a dig and a block; and AJ Spitzer dealt out four kills, 15 digs and two aces.
T’WOLVES REBOUND FROM FIRST LOSS
CATTARAUGUS — Cattaraugus-Little Valley improved to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in Division 2 with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 sweep of Salamanca.
For the Warriors (3-8, 3-7), Hadleigh Krug had two aces and 14 digs; Ayla Newark had four kills and three aces; and Liana Jimerson had seven assists.
