HORTON HAS CAREER NIGHT

PANAMA — Senior Michael Horton scored a career-high 40 points to go along with seven assists and six rebounds to power Panama (3-0) past nonleague Pine Valley 63-50.

Horton scored 12 points in the first quarter and 6 more in the second as Panama led 27-24 at halftime.

“Mike is really good at getting to the basket, but also using his pivot foot and getting people up in the air. He’s really crafty getting to the basket and does a good job of changing speeds, which helps him a lot,” Panama head coach Josh Nelson said. “He played a really good game. I would like to see other people step up as well, but it was a huge game for Mike.”

In the third quarter, Horton had his best individual quarter with 15 points to help Panama take a seven-point lead into the final eight minutes.

“He really got us through that third quarter. It was definitely a much-needed 40-point game,” Nelson said. “We would pull away and they would come back every single time.”

Konner Morgan had 12 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, for Panama.

“That was huge down the stretch getting us extra possessions,” Nelson said.

Trent Sunick led Pine Valley (0-6) with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, while James Green added 15 points.
