Fredonia State women and men prep for SUNYAC soccer tourneys

Both the men’s soccer teams have earned SUNYAC Tournament berths and will take to the field on Saturday.

The women play host to Oswego at University Stadium at 2 p.m., while the men head to Plattsburgh for a 2 p.m. road game.

WOMEN

The third-seeded Blue Devils (9-5-4, 6-2-1), who knocked off No. 6 Oswego (6-5-5, 3-2-4) 2-1 in their regular-season meeting, are led by Bronwyn Madden, whose 10 goals top the conference. Teammate Gabby Irwin leads the conference in assists with nine and has scored six goals; and freshmen Anna Ratchuk and Mckenna Szmarz have collected four goals apiece.

Casey Fetzner and Abby Szymkowiak (four shutouts) have shared the goalkeeping duties.

Meanwhile, Oswego’s roster is led by Kyla Sustad (five goals, four assists); Courtney Key and Sabrina Schmitt (four goals apiece); and Amber McDermott (three goals, four assists). Keeper Paytyn Crane has started all 16 games and has recorded three solo shutouts and two combined shutouts.

Fredonia State enters the game leading the SUNYAC with 25 conference-only goals, but Oswego ranks second with 21. The teams just met in the regular-season finale where the Blue Devils claimed a come-from-behind 2-1 win.

MEN

No. 6 Fredonia State (7-6-4, 4-4-1) earned a berth in the conference tournament for the first time since 2016, also against Plattsburgh.

During the 2025 regular season, Fredonia State edged No. 3 Plattsburgh (10-2-5, 5-2-2) 1-0.

The key players for the Blue Devils are Chance LaCroix (five goals, six assists); Freddie Butler (five goals, two assists); Sam Evans (two goals, five assists); and Liam Winters and Ryan Ameis (three goals apiece). Thomas McDonald has had 15 starts in goal and has a 1.15 goals-against average.

The players to watch for Plattsburgh are Xavier Kamba (five goals, one assist); Santiago Vargas (four goals, two assists); Tristan Laundree (three goals, four assists); and Declan Gallagher and Rocco Ruscitto (three goals apiece).
