Autopsy scheduled after man found dead in Portland

PORTLAND — New York State Police said Sunday afternoon that an autopsy is scheduled on a man who was found dead in the town of Portland on Saturday.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of State Police in Jamestown responded to a report of a found unidentified male body off Route 20 near Corell Creek. An operator traveling on the highway located the deceased body.

New York State Police Sergeant David Hendrick said Saturday that the body — that of a white male estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old — was found near the creek, but not in the water.

Police confirmed that the body found was not Sean Carpenter, a 35-year-old gone missing from Jamestown since April 11.

An investigation is ongoing and State Police say they will provide more information when it becomes available
