Pomfret Town Supervisor Dan Pacos supports a site near Van Buren Road as a home for New York state’s nuclear power project. Pacos announced at the December town board meeting that he “indicated to the county” the town is interested in hosting a nuclear facility at the site. The land is on both sides of Van Buren Road, bordering the railroad tracks to the east, and is already owned by Dunkirk Power LLC — the same front company for NRG that owns the site of the decommissioned power plant in the city of Dunkirk.
