Jamestown man loses manslaughter appeal

The Fourth Department Appellate Division has ruled against a Jamestown man’s appeal of his guilty plea first-degree manslaughter. Tavion Turner, 25, accepted a plea deal in July 2021 on the day jury selection was to begin in his murder trial. Turner was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder related to the Nov. 28, 2017, stabbing death of 22-year-old Dyllan Ownbey, a resident of the Frewsburg area. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT Around 6 p.m. Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office assisted the Jamestown Police Department with a hit and run accident. Deputies checked the area of 4911 Baker St. Ext. for the suspect vehicle which was located in the ditch. Further investigation found that Courtey M. Roman, 38, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration at 3:32 p.m. Feb. 13 after officers responded to East Second Street near Winsor Street for a reported fight.
