Grant to enhance Point Gratiot Trail with 2 play spaces

A new outdoor experience, Discovery Way at the Point, is coming soon to Dunkirk’s Point Gratiot Park. Revitalize Dunkirk, Inc., is excited to announce confirmation of an award from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation (RWJF) to Kaboom!, a play space specialist company, to help fund the addition of two child-friendly activity areas alongside the park’s wooded trail. Numerous agencies responded to a fire Saturday evening. The call came in around 6:45 p.m. at 620 Southside in Cherry Creek. Responders included Cherry Creek, Emergency Services, South Dayton, Forestville, Ellington and Sunset Bay.

Truck pulled from lake, but man still missing

ELLERY — A truck owned by a missing Lakewood resident has been recovered from Chautauqua Lake, but the individual's whereabouts remains unknown. Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies say the truck was recovered Friday afternoon near the Chautauqua Bridge. The vehicle was towed by boat to Long Point State Park where it was removed from the lake. The truck was confirmed to belong to Daniel Emerson who has been missing from Lakewood since March 3. Dunkirk man admits theft of COVID funds

A Dunkirk man has pleaded guilty to the theft of COVID funds. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Friday that Lamont Brown, 37, made the plea to U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr., which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, who is handling the case, stated during the COVID-19 pandemic, Brown recruited others to apply for unemployment assistance compensation through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program for which they were not entitled.
