Thirty years ago — 1992 Both Ripley and Westfield School Board members came out strongly in favor of the annexation of the two school districts at a public hearing held recently. Although initially the Westfield board saw little advantage financially to annexing with Ripley, the recent increase from 20 to 40 percent of incentive aid for consolidating districts made the proposed annexation more attractive for Westfield. Thirty years ago — 1992 Jutta A. Rawcliffe has been appointed curator of the Historical Museum of the D.R. Barker Library in Fredonia. She succeeds Donna Carlson. Miss Rawcliffe, who was born in London, obtained a degree in French from Southampton University. She also holds degrees in arts administration and art history. Miss Rawcliffe came to the United States seven years ago from England to pursue a career in museum work and has resided in Fredonia ever since. Thirty years ago — 1992 George McIntyre, president of Chautauqua Chapter 459 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, recently announced the awarding of the first Thomas Stone Memorial Scholarship. The 1992 recipient of the $500 scholarship is Dean Swoger, a graduate of Ripley High School and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is now a fulltime student at JCC. The scholarship is named in memory of Army Reservist Thomas Stone from Falconer, who was killed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
