Veterans recognized at Fredonia with events beginning Saturday

The 9th Veterans Remembrance Ceremony, to be held in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Friday, Nov. 11 at 3:30 p.m., will highlight a week of events recognizing Fredonia’s veterans.

The remembrance ceremony is held annually to honor all veterans. President Virginia Horvath will serve as the guest speaker and the Dunkirk JROTC will display the colors. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Veterans scholarship recipients will be recognized, including Biology major and senior Kelsey Lowery of North Tonawanda, the recipient of the $1,500 SUNY Fredonia Veterans Scholarship. Senior English and International Studies major Zachary Beaudoin from Angola, junior Computer and Information Systems major Tory Boyce from South Colton, senior Law and Politics major Gabrielle Macool from Hornell, and senior Criminal Justice and Sociology major Scott Aldinger from Alden, will be recognized as recipients of $750 Student Affairs Veterans Scholarships.

Also, this year, Sons of Liberty New York is presenting two $150 scholarships to student veterans including Kalif Crutcher from Cheektowaga and Jeremy Coon from Fredonia.

¯ Veterans Panel at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 11 a.m., sponsored by the Writers@Work program and the Department of History, with Fredonia alumnus Phil Zimmer

¯ Kappa Sigma 22 Pushup Challenge, 3:15 p.m. at Steele Hall

Monday, Nov. 7

¯ Project 22 Film Screening with Q&A from Executive Producer and Fredonia alumnus Theo Collins, 6:30 p.m., at the Kelly Family Auditorium in the Science Center

Sunday, Nov. 13

¯ Veterans Day 5K run/walk/roll, 1 p.m. Go online at http://students.fredonia.edu/veteransaffairs/news-events for more information. Shirts will be given to the first 100 runners registered.
