Historian To Speak On Park

Devon Taylor, Chautauqua town historian, will speak on the history of Mayville’s Lakeside Park at the next meeting of the town of Chautauqua Historical Society at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Sid Compton room of the town building, 2 Academy St., Mayville. The public is invited to attend the free event and is encouraged to bring any photos, post cards or personal memories of the park to share. Social distancing will be practiced as much as possible, and masks will be welcome.

Quilting Companions gather Wednesday

The Northern Chautauqua Quilting Companions will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at Harvest Chapel on Matteson Street in Fredonia. The program is being presented by Christine North and her mother, Danielle North, of North Star Quilting, Gowanda. They will be doing a demonstration of making a quick quilt plus a trunk show including many of their award winning quilts. Their company is a home-based machine quilting service. Their part of the program will start at 7 p.m.

Family breakfast set for Sunday

Forest Lodge 166 F&AM will be holding its monthly Family Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Breakfast will consist of eggs made to order, pancakes or French toast, sausages, fruit cocktail, toast, juice, milk, coffee and tea. Adults and teenagers 13 and up $9, children 6-12, $5, kids 5 and under are free. Public is welcome and cordially invited to attend. Forest Lodge is located at 321 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Cub Scouts plan fundraiser for

June 4

Fredonia Cub Scouts Pack 267 is hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee’s in Dunkirk on Saturday, June 4 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $7 and include pancakes, bacon, and a beverage. A limited number of tickets are available from Pack members, or you may email cubscoutspack267@gmail.com or call/text Leslie Wille at 716-268-1271 to request tickets. All proceeds of this event will support Pack activities and operations.

Craft, yard sale planned for Lily Dale

LILY DALE — The Lily Dale Craft Guilds Crafts Curiosities and Yard Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 20 to Sunday, May 22. It will be at the Lily Dale Lyceum on East Street. There will be free parking and entry for the event.

Ripley To Hold Special Meeting

RIPLEY — A special meeting of the Ripley Central School Board will be held at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in room 116B to review and accept unofficial voting results of the 2022-23 budget vote and election of board members.

Revitalize Dunkirk sets

Revitalize Dunkirk Inc.’s Beautification Committee will meet at 10 a.m. Tueday at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, in room 127. The focus will be on project updates including the June 11 plant sale fundraiser. All interested persons are welcome.

Library plans plant exchange

Are your perennials overgrown? Did you buy too many plants for your garden? Are you a seed saver and want to share? Exchange or simply share your garden extras with others.

Participants should drop off their plants at the tent outside of the Darwin Barker Library in Fredonia between 9 and 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11. The swap will start at 10 and end at noon. After noon all plants are up for grabs! Please bring plants in containers you don’t mind giving away. Include the name of the plant and any care instructions.

City library hosts author Staub

The Dunkirk Public Library has announced an evening with renowned author and Dunkirk native Wendy Corsi Staub. Staub will be hosted by the members of the Dunkirk Public Library Adult Book Club and her visit marks the first of our 2022 Local Author Summer Spotlight sessions.

The library would like to extend an open invitation to all interested individuals who wish to join the event in the Library Reading Room at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 19 as Staub presents insights into her latest book “The Other Family.”

Copies of her work will be available for sale courtesy of Talking Leaves Books of Buffalo. Light refreshments will be provided.
