Opera House to Screen “Despicable Me 2” FREE

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will screen the animated family comedy “Despicable Me 2” on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Lily Dale Assembly as part of Family Night at the Movies, admission to the film is FREE.

Family Night at the Movies often features films based on or that inspire books for children. The series was originally developed as a way for adults to share the excitement of reading and great family entertainment with the children in their lives. The Northwest PA Pet Emergency Center, in Erie, PA, has donated several books, which will be given away in a drawing before the film.

In “Despicable Me 2,” while ex-supervillain Gru is adjusting to family life and an attempted honest living in the jam business a secret Arctic laboratory is stolen. The Anti-Villain League decides it needs an insider’s help and recruits Gru to assist in the investigation. Together with an eccentric AVL agent, Lucy Wilde, Gru concludes that his prime suspect is the presumed dead villain, El Macho. Seemingly blinded by an overprotective nature when it comes to his children and a growing mutual attraction to Lucy, Gru appears to be headed down the wrong road in the investigation as his minions are quietly kidnapped en masse for some malevolent purpose.

Featuring the voices of Steve Carell and Kristin Wiig, “Despicable Me 2” has been well-received by audiences and critics alike. New Yorker magazine calls it “a rarity – an animated sequel that improves on the original.” MSN Movies calls it “heartfelt and hilarious, smart and silly, action-packed but never violent.”

Free admission tickets are available only at the door on the night of the show. Seating is limited to 400; patrons are reminded that there is no food or drink allowed in the Opera House and that all children must be accompanied by an adult.
