String Fest Scholarship concert set

The Fredonia Central Schools String Music Department will present the annual String Fest Scholarship Fundraising Concert on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in the District Auditorium.

Featuring all Fredonia Central School string students in grades 4-12, the Beginning, Junior, Concert, and High School String Orchestras will each participate. Pieces to be performed include Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Knick-Knock, Crusade, Artemis Rising and the Black Sea.

The concert will raise money for two scholarship funds. The first is the Mark P. Steger Senior Scholarship, which is presented at the spring concert to a senior orchestra member who will be attending college. The second scholarship is awarded at this concert to one or more outstanding string students who would like to attend a summer music camp or take private lessons.

A total of $14,200 has been distributed to deserving students since the inception of this concert in 1992. The 2012 Mark P. Steger Scholarship winner was Reed Porterfield. Alicia Kluck, Esel Ro, Emily Gronquist and Ally Cobb were the 2013 private lesson scholarship winners.

Tickets are $3 for adults and students are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any orchestra member or by calling Colleen Vanderzyden at 679-1581, ext. 2722.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
