Jazz at Domus Fare coming to Fredonia
The Domus Fare Restaurant in downtown Fredonia is hosting “Jazz at Domus Fare,” a subscription series at their location near the village square. In partnership with the Fredonia Jazz Society, the restaurant will be transformed on four Thursday nights between September 2018 and April 2019 into an intimate jazz club with music and food, including bar service of beer and wine. Tickets are on sale now.
The Fredonia Jazz Society is a community-based non-profit organization, striving to connect our area’s artists and businesses to further the opportunities for each. “Jazz has had a long, rich history here,” said Karl Boelter, director emeritus of the School of Music at the State University of New York at Fredonia. “When this interacts with our community and elsewhere, we all benefit. The Fredonia Jazz Society wants the best of the arts to have a place in the town for everyone to enjoy.”
The restaurant’s name, which means “home cooking,” suggests that these events will have a local focus. Indeed, the menu will include the creations of Isaac Borgstrom, Domus Fare’s head chef, and the beer and wine lists will include local options. The performances feature Fredonia’s own Nick Weiser Trio, which is comprised of School of Music faculty (Nick Weiser, piano; Kieran Hanlon, bass; Alec Dube, drums), modified or enhanced on occasion by guest musicians. Someone who attends all four events during the season will be treated to four unique shows. “I have a lot of music in my repertoire and I draw from many sources: jazz standards, yes, but also classical and popular music familiar to today’s audiences,” says artistic director and band leader Nick Weiser.
The four events will occur on the following Thursdays: Sept. 13 and Nov. 1, 2018, and Feb. 21 and April 25, 2019. Two seatings will occur on each date, at 5:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. On these nights, admission to the restaurant will be by ticket only. Subscriptions are on sale now for the full season of four events — and a half-season subscription of two events — at fredoniajazzsociety.com. Dinner is available at either show and can be ordered in advance, if desired, when buying a subscription. Single-event tickets will go on sale in mid-August, if available.
