Opera House to present regional duo in concert

Folk in Fredonia

Sue Tillotson and Jim Cunningham

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present regional musicians Sue Tillotson and Jim Cunningham in concert as part of the Folk in Fredonia Music Series on Friday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m.

Tillotson and Cunningham hail from Western New York and have played music together for many years, bringing a love of Celtic music and exciting instrumentation to their audiences.

Tillotson plays fiddle, whistle and vocals with Cunningham on guitar, bouzouki, cittern, Celtic harp and vocals. She is an award-winning Scottish fiddler and, as leader/founder of the Bonnie Loch Fiddlers, is in demand as a teacher and workshop clinician.

With extensive experience performing for many types of events, including weddings, receptions, at art galleries and in festivals, the pair also have been a popular feature of the Jamestown Regional Celtic Festival for the past four years. They make their first appearance at the Ligonier (PA) Highland Games this fall.

With a repertoire that includes Scottish, Irish, Scandinavian and Breton tunes, as well as songs for Contra Dance, Square Dance, Celtic Christmas and original pieces, Tillotson and Cunningham released their first full CD in July of 2015; it is available on CD Baby, Spotify, and iTunes. They currently are preparing for a second CD release later this year. They can be followed on Facebook and ReverbNation.

The duo’s performance is part of the Opera House Folk in Fredonia Music Series, which is generously sponsored by The Gilman Family. The concert also is sponsored by Cool Little Music Shop, with additional support from Tuscany Fresh Meats and Deli, the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County and the Arts Services Initiative of WNY’s Give for Greatness program.

Tickets are $17 ($15 for Opera House members, $10 for students) and may be purchased in person at the Opera House Box Office or by phone at 679-1891, Tuesday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.fredopera.org anytime.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is a member-supported not-for-profit organization located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia. A complete schedule of Opera House events is available at www.fredopera.org.
