St. John’s Episcopal Church is offering ‘no touching ashes’

With the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17, St. John’s Episcopal Church will provide an opportunity for Christians to begin the Lenten season with the imposition of ashes.

“No Hand Touching- Ashes to Go” imposition of ashes will take place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The imposition will consist of a short prayer and the imposition of ashes. The person administering ashes will wear gloves and follow all safety precautions — no hands will touch the forehead.

Ashes are imposed at the start of the Lenten season to remind us that we are all sinners. Lent is the time for Christians to prepare for Easter- the Resurrection by reflection and prayer.

Each Friday, in Lent, for those interested, a short service of “Stations of the Cross” will be held at 6 p.m.. Social distancing will be honored at each service, and all attending must wear a mask. Persons attending can enter at the front door.

All are welcome to attend St. John’s Church, located at the corner of W. Fourth and Lark Streets in Dunkirk.
