GOWANDA — Healthy Community Alliance (HCA) has been awarded funding to continue its program that helps older adults apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. SNAP helps over 4 million people age 60+ buy healthy food at their local store or market every day.

“It is important for older people to get the nutrition they need to maintain their health. Even a little monetary help with groceries can go a long way,” says Healthy Community Alliance CEO, Ann Battaglia. “Many seniors don’t even know they qualify for SNAP benefits until we meet with them.”

Applying for senior SNAP benefits is easy and Healthy Community Alliance has trained staff that can assist seniors with the application process. Staff are available to assist people age 60 or older and who reside in northern Cattaraugus County and southern Erie County. SNAP enrollers are based out of Gowanda and Springville but will also meet seniors at a location that is convenient for them.
