Gowanda honors students for November

Gracie Eddy

GOWANDA – The Student Council of Gowanda High School named five outstanding Panthers as Students of the Month for November. Honorees are selected based on the following attributes – collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity – otherwise known as The Four C’s. These skills and characteristics are central to the district’s mission and values.

¯ Gracie Eddy for communication: “She is always prepared for class, on time with her homework done and asks questions to clarify procedures – with a smile,” says math teacher Mr. Rex Brown.

¯ Marcus Gamble for collaboration: “Marcus Gamble exemplifies the characteristic of collaboration during Living Environment because he is always willing to help a partner or classmate,” says science teacher Ms. Margaret King. “Marcus goes out of his way to explain things to other students who may be struggling with a science concept and leads by example to keep his lab groups focused and on task.”

¯ Audrina Huss for critical thinking: “Audrina’s class time is used for more than jumping through the hoops. She owns her learning by setting academic goals for herself that she has developed appropriately and works toward them. She does this by asking many questions, communicating and re-explaining, always having her homework done, staying focused and diligent to her math practices, and finding other opportunities outside of class to improve,” says math teacher Ms. Brandi LoBianco. “She also works with her parents by communicating with them and challenging them with algebra problems. Her goal is to score not only mastery on the New York state Regents exam this June, but to smash a home run by scoring in the 90s — a feat not easily or regularly accomplished by all students in Western New York! I know that if Audrina has set her mind to it, she will get it. Best of luck, Audrina! Keep up the great work and role modeling!”

¯ Emma Lillie for collaboration: “Emma is a great collaborator for Lego Robotics because she organizes kit and individual part sorting for future robotic builds,” says science teacher Mr. Jonathan Spiegel. “Without her help the class would not function as smoothly as it currently operates.”

¯ Christina Wilder for collaboration: “Christina is extremely reliable to help her peers when learning new techniques in JCC Ceramics” says art teacher Ms. Heather Rydzik. “Christina also helps maintain the studio space and supplies, which results in a more productive work session for every artist. Christina works hard to develop her skills and is more than able to help clarify how to resolve issues that arise in the studio.”
