CIAO makes donation during the Christmas season

A holiday message greeted members.

Chautauqua Italian American Organization CIAO held its annual Christmas Party recently at Manning’s Italian Kitchen.

Chairwomen, Lynda Mosher (Community Service Chair) and Nance Ortolano presided over the event. Mosher, chair of the Christmas Stocking Community Service Project, remarked that members went above and beyond with their candy and treat donations and not only were we able to fill the 25 stockings, but we had candy and treats to fill another 10 stockings! Some members also donated toys.

This is the fifth consecutive year that CIAO has donated stockings to Willow Mission, something not only Willow Mission looks forward to, but members as well. While waiting for lunch to be served, some of us discovered that we aren’t as Italian as we thought, at least when it comes to celebrating Christmas.

Ortolano had a little quiz comparing American Christmas Celebrations to those celebrated in Italy. Prizes were awarded to the highest score. Other activities planned for the new year are: Paint and Sip on Jan. 16, 4 p.m., Mount Carmel Church Hall, cost $30, and cooking class on Feb. 25, cost and location to be determined, and St. Joseph Day Celebration in March and a trip to New York City for the San Gennaro Festival in September and of course our annual picnic in August. If you are interested in any of these events, please contact Ortolano at 716-673-9177, or email nbortolano@gmail.com, Sam Crisanti at 716- 934-2592.

Be sure to reserve your spot as some of these activities are limited in number. CIAO is excited to offer all these events to our members and their guests. New members are always welcomed and remember, you don’t have to be Italian to join and all are welcome!
