¯ GERRY — Shane Perry, 31, of Erie, Pa., was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument. Trooper responded Thursday to Route 60 in Gerry for a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road. Perry advised the troopers he had driven from Erie to begin a road trip when he ran out of gas. Perry displayed multiple signs of being under the influence of opiates and was placed under arrest after failing several field sobriety tests. Inside Perry’s vehicle troopers located a loaded hypodermic needle and three used hypodermic needles containing heroin residue. He was later transported to Chautauqua County Jail.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ MAYVILLE — Oliver D. Bookman, 50, of Jamestown, was charged with second-degree assault. The Sheriff’s Office said it has been investigating a June 9 incident at the jail in which jail staff was injured. Bookman was charged following the investigation and is scheduled to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.
