City man tied to dispute nabbed with drugs

A Dunkirk man is facing a number of charges after a domestic dispute and a traffic stop that allegedly turned up 7.7 grams of crack cocaine.

On May 15 at approximately 5:26 p.m., Dunkirk Police Officers responded to an unknown disturbance in the area of West Fifth and Dove streets. Upon arrival the subjects involved fled the scene, but through investigation officers determined that a subject, later identified as Alejandro Gonzalez-Virola, 41, had been involved in some form of a domestic dispute with a female.

During the dispute Gonzalez-Virola reportedly struck the female victim with his vehicle before leaving the area. Gonzalez-Virola is also alleged to have displayed what appeared to be a handgun to witnesses who attempted to stop and help the female and threatened them with it.

Officers conducted follow up investigations and filed for a warrant for Gonzalez-Virola. On Sunday, at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers observed Gonzalez-Virola operating a vehicle in the area of East Fifth and Main streets. Officers conducted a stop on Gonzalez-Virola and took him into custody for the outstanding warrant.

Further investigation led to the discovery and seizure of approximately 7.7 grams of crack cocaine from the vehicle, which was packaged in a manner consistent with street level narcotics sales. Gonzalez-Virola was transported to Dunkirk Police Headquarters where he was charged with second-degree menacing, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, and several vehicle and traffic law infractions, all stemming from the previous domestic dispute. Gonzalez-Virola was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.
