Presentations planned this week on stopping senior fraud and abuse

Two dates and locations have been set by the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging for the presentation “Stopping Senior Fraud and Abuse Starts with You.” The sessions are free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, the event will take place at the Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown at 10 a.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, it will be held at 1 p.m. at the Dunkirk Senior Center, 45 Cliffstar Court, Dunkirk.

Learn about identity theft, scams, Medicare Insurance fraud, financial exploitation and more. Presentations are planned by the New York Statewide Senior Action Council, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Elder Law & Justice, Coordinator of Patients Rights and Chautauqua County Office for the Aging. There will be a special presentation by Eric Hausman, Medicare Expert. Medicare Health Insurance Coverage for Observation Status and ABN (Advanced Beneficiary Notice) will be discussed.

What do individuals need to age well? Comment on the OFA annual plan for services at the end of the presentations.

Community Barn Dance set for Sept. 6

An old-fashioned First Friday Community Barn Dance will be held Friday, Sept. 6 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Kick off the 2019-2020 season. Celebrate an American Holiday with an American Tradition. Adults are $7; students, $5, ages 12 and under free. Dances include squares, contras, mixers and more. The event is beginner-friendly and family-friendly. No experience is needed. For details, call Joe at 679-8426.
