South Dayton Legion plans chicken barbecue

SOUTH DAYTON — South Dayton American Legion Post 1593 will be holding a Weidner’s chicken barbecue this coming Sunday. This is drive-through only, first come, first serve, and starts at noon until sold out. Dinners will include chicken, two sides, and dessert for $11 each.

The fundraiser is a combined effort of the Legionnaires, Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion to raise money and help with the Legion’s daily operating expenses. The Post is located on Mill Street in South Dayton.

LVCC holding book sale event

Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County was given more than 8,000 books that have now been sorted and are ready to be sold from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 15, 16 and 17. Because of the number of books, the sale will be held at 4595 West Main Road, Route 20, Fredonia. Book topics include: historical, political, educational, biographies, finance, spiritual, poetry, music, fiction, reference, audio, record albums and more. There are some new books, used books and some vintage books. Hardcover books are $1 each or six for $5 and 50 cents for a paperback or 12 paperbacks for $5. On April 17, an armload of books will cost $10, a bag full of books will cost $15 and a box full will cost $20. All proceeds benefit Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County

Special service set for Saturday

Friends of Michael Sheehan, Joshua and Alayna Spinler, invite residents to a memorial and celebration of life service for Sheehan at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Dunkirk at 876 Central Ave. If you wish to attend this event, the church asks all attendees to practice all covid restrictions such as masks till seated, and social distancing throughout the church.

There will be temperatures taken before entering for the event. Sheehan, 38, of Dunkirk, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 12, 2021. following a long battle with addiction.

SOAR meeting is April 27

There will be a SOAR Chapter 4 – 1 meeting on Tuesday, April 27 noon at the USW Local 2693 Union Hall on Fourth Street in the Dunkirk. All eligible SOAR members are invited to attend the monthly meeting.
