Plan set for 75th birthday party

The committee planning the “75th Birthday Bash” for members of the Dunkirk and Cardinal Mindszenty High Schools Classes of 1968 has set the following information for classmates.

The cost for the Saturday, Aug. 9 event at American Legion Post 62 will be $15 per person. Checks should be made out to DHS Class of 1968.

Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a light buffet supper.

The next organization meeting is set for 6 p.m. today at Post 62.

Department announces sign-ups

The Village of Fredonia/Town of Pomfret Recreation Department will hold Summer Recreation sign ups on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the second floor conference room at Fredonia Village Hall. Book club makes return

at Brocton library

BROCTON — Ahira Hall Memorial Library’s Bibliomaniacs Book Club is back. Join participants for an evening of snacks, conversation, and book discussion on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. June’s book pick is The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise by Colleen Oakley. Copies of the book are available at the library. Haven’t read the book yet, don’t worry. Still come, be part of the conversation and help us choose the next Bibliomaniac pick. Fredonia Ukulele canceled this week

Fredonia Ukulele has been canceled for Saturday. Organizers will meet again on July 12 at Domus Fare from 5 to 7 p.m.

‘Dogs on the Avenue’ resumes in city

St. John’s United Church of Christ has resumed their “dogs on the Avenue.” Every Friday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., freshly grilled hot dogs will be available for sale. Location is in the area in front of the church, 733 Central Ave., and parking is available on Central Avenue. Stop by for a taste of summer!

Corn grinding display on Sunday

The Busti Historical Society will be grinding corn this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mill located at 3443 Lawson Road, Jamestown. The Society holds a 20c agricultural license to grind and sell cornmeal and buckwheat flour. The public is invited to see and tour the working mill. The event is free, donations are accepted.

The mill was built in 1839 and remained in operation until 1960. It produced wheat flour, cornmeal, buckwheat flour, and animal feed. In 1973, it became property of the Busti Historical Society and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. In 2013 the mill was restored to operation and rededicated to the community.
