Veterans 4 Christ

gather Saturday

BROCTON — Veterans 4 Christ will have the free breakfast brunch for veterans, active-duty military and a guest at 10 a.m. Saturday. The location is Tri-Church Parish, 41 E. Main St. There will not be a guest speaker, which allows for conversation with fellow veterans. Tri-Church Parish is handicap accessible.

SOAR meeting

set for Tuesday

SOAR Chapter 4-1 will meet Tuesday at the USW LOCAL 2693 Union Hall on Fourth Street in Dunkirk. The meeting will commence at noon with lunch to follow. All SOAR Members and retirees are invited to attend. For further information, call 716-366-1485.

Sheridan clay

discussion Tuesday

SHERIDAN — Continuing with its summer series of lectures and events, the Sheridan Historical Society will offer a presentation called “Sheridan Clay, Can You Dig It?” on making pottery from Sheridan clay.

On Tuesday, Potter Ron Nasca will discuss and demonstrate how he has created special bowls from clay dug from the site where the 19th century Haven and Kenyon Pottery Company was located. Nasca produced these special “Haven and Kenyon” bowls for the local Empty Bowls fundraiser which donates the proceeds to combat food insecurity in the area.

The presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m., following open hours from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to come early and explore the various historical displays throughout the building. The Sheridan Historical Society building is located at 2702 Rt 20 at the corner of Center Road. New members are always welcome, and meetings are held once a month. Appointments may be arranged at other times to visit the museum by calling (716) 960-9026 or (716) 673-1822.

Canceled Music on the Pier to be rescheduled in late August

Organizers with the city of Dunkirk decided to cancel the Music on the Pier at Memorial Park, Thursday, June 19, due to the rainy weather. The performance by “We Speak Canadian” will be rescheduled at the end of the summer – either Aug. 28 or Sept. 4.
