National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day today

The City of Dunkirk Police Department and WCA ALSTAR Ambulance, in cooperation with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), are coordinating a North County location for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day today, Oct. 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WCA ALSTAR Services has again graciously provided their North Headquarters for the drive-in drop-off location. ALSTAR North is located behind School # 3 at Rt. 60 and Orchard Street in the City of Dunkirk. Prescriptions can be dropped off without question.

City of Dunkirk Youth & Recreation Department to Host Boo Bash

The City of Dunkirk Youth & Recreation Department will be hosting a Halloween Boo Bash on Thursday Oct. 30 from 4-6 p.m. in the Stearns Building and Stearns Court for local kids. This free event will feature trick-or-treating with various departments, arts and crafts, refreshments, goodie bags, and free hot chocolate available at Central Station Restaurant. Overnight Closures Veterans Memorial Bridge Begin Tuesday

The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake between North Harmony and Ellery will be closed in both directions from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly beginning on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 28, and continuing until Friday morning, Oct, In addition, the bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, until 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. Motorists should follow the posted detour utilizing Route 394 and Route 430.

Chautauqua Lake Central School To Host Blood Drive Oct. 29

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua Lake Central School, 100 N. Erie St., Mayville, will host an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 29. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
