County reports no new COVID cases for first time since August

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Health Department reported no new cases of COVID-19 yesterday through the New York Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System. "The last day that zero new cases were reported was Aug. 14, 2020," said Christine Schuyler, county Public Health Director. "This is an encouraging indicator that vaccination is working to stop the spread of this virus in our community." Economy rebounding, but not back to pre-pandemic levels

Chautauqua County gained another 1,600 jobs in the past month, according to state Labor Department statistics. Private-sector employment increased from 44,700 jobs in April to 46,300 in May. But, that doesn’t mean Chautauqua County is back to pre-pandemic levels. In May 2019, the last comparable year, private sector employment in Chautauqua County was 41,000 jobs compared to 36,200 in May 2021, which means the county has still lost 12% of the jobs it had before the pandemic. JCC North County Extension Center returns to in-person

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s North County Extension Center in Dunkirk has returned to in-person operations. Student services available through the center have operated remotely since March 2020.
