County nears 9K confirmed cases of COVID

Chautauqua County is closing in on 9,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 24 new cases reported Friday. To date there have been 8,938 confirmed cases of the virus locally. Of the new cases, 13 were recorded in the Jamestown zip code, two each in Ashville and Sherman and one each in Dunkirk, Fredonia, Brocton, Falconer, Gerry, Lakewood and Westfield. There are currently 121 active cases along with 12 people with the virus in the hospital, 482 in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 1.5%. Death reported, 31 new COVID cases in county

There was some good news in regard to Thursday’s updated COVID-19 numbers from the Chautauqua County Health Department. According to the Centers of Disease Control, the level of transmission of the virus has been downgraded from high to substantial. The bad news, however, was a new death, an additional 31 cases — with 116 active — for a 8,914 since the pandemic began in March 2020. There have been 8,649 recoveries and 149 total deaths.
