Forty-nine new COVID-19 cases were reported in Chautauqua County by the Health Department. It is the highest one-day total since Feb. 24. Twenty-six of the new cases are from the cities of Dunkirk and Jamestown with five from Silver Creek and four in Fredonia. In all, there have been 8,621 cases with 8,267 recoveries. GOWANDA — In a letter sent out late Thursday afternoon, the Gowanda Central School district announced that four students between the Gowanda Middle and High School have tested positive for COVID-19. In the letter, it is noted that the local Health Department is aware, and further steps are being taken as necessary. Because of the positive tests, in-person school close contacts have been contacted.
