County updates vaccination counts, reports 37 new cases

The Chautauqua County Health Department reported one of its lowest totals in new COVID cases in recent memory Wednesday morning with 37. To date there have been 6,822 confirmed cases, with 339 currently considered active. No new virus-related deaths were recorded and remain at 111 during the pandemic, while the number of people with COVID in the hospital was at 38 and 1,869 in quarantine. COVID positivity rate continues fall

Entering January, Chautauqua County had a COVID positivity rate of 10.7%. That number is calculated by taking the number of confirmed cases over a seven-day span and comparing it to the total number of tests administered during that time. New York state used the metric to place restrictions on activities such as seating at restaurants and testing requirements at school.
