One dies after motor vehicle accident in Gowanda

GOWANDA — One person has died while another was transported by Mercy Flight to ECMC in Buffalo with severe injuries after an accident on Sandhill Road.

Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department reports on its Facebook page that at approximately 1225 p.m. Thursday, Gowanda Ambulance Service and the department were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, fire and ambulance personnel observed two vehicles collided head-on with extensive damage to both vehicles. Both vehicles were occupied by only a driver, both of whom had to be extricated by a Hurst tool due to the extensive damage to both vehicles.

Collins and Collins Center Fire Companies assisted Gowanda Fire with extrication, traffic control and setting up the landing zone for Mercy Flight. “Our sincere heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to the individual families involved,” the department’s Facebook page noted.

The accident is under investigation by the Gowanda Police Department and the New York State Police Accident Investigation Unit.
