Surma resigning Fredonia water job

Fredonia’s chief water treatment plant operator is resigning.

Mayor Douglas Essek announced the resignation of Chris Surma, who has headed the village water works since 2013, Monday at a Board of Trustees workshop.

Essek asked Surma if he had anything to say. “Nope,” he replied. “It’s just, I’ve served my time, you know,” drawing laughter from village officials.

“I hear you,” Essek said.

“It’s been a long few years and the plant’s pretty much up to snuff now, so, just worry about the staffing levels … It’s been a pleasure,” Surma said.
