SUNY Fredonia canceling first day of classes due to weather

The State University of New York at Fredonia has canceled the first day classes and activities that were scheduled for Wednesday. This decision is being made proactively as students have been away from campus for the winter break and need to travel back to the Fredonia area. "Given the current travel conditions and the forecast, we do not want students travelling back to campus right now," the campus said in a statement. "Students and employees have received emails with additional information."

Winter storm warning issued to begin Monday

The National Weather Service has upgraded the winter storm watch to a warning from 7 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Heavy snow and blowing snow is expected. Total snow accumulations are likely to be around 10 to 20 inches. Winds could be gusting as high as 50 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow and at times white out conditions.  Greatest snow accumulation across the northern Chautauqua Ridge, Boston Hills and Buffalo Southtowns. Motorist charged with DWI after striking vehicle, leaving scene in city

A 25-year-old man is facing a number of charges after striking a car that then hit a house on Saturday night. Dunkirk Police reported on Tuesday that at around 8:32 p.m., officers responded to Leming and East Pine Streets for a motor vehicle accident. After a short investigation it was determined the suspect went through a two-way intersection without stopping at the stop sign. The suspect was later identified as Alan Wasserman.
