Minor damage reported in city garage fire

A small fire Monday afternoon caused minor damage to a garage in the city of Dunkirk. Firefighters report at 4:54 p.m., they were dispatched to a possible garage fire behind 765 Washington Ave. Firefighters found a small fire on the exterior of the garage that extended to the interior of the structure. The fire was reported and partially extinguished by a neighbor. Firefighters performed overhaul, checked for extensions, and extinguished the rest of the fire using water cans. Gov. Kathy Hochul, with the New York State Department of Conservation, Friday announced a drought watch has been issued for 20 New York counties, including Chautauqua County. The action was taken after consulting with the State Drought Management Task Force and federal partner agencies. City man charged in threats with shears

A Dunkirk man was charged after threatening residents with a garden tool on Main Street last week. Dunkirk police report Anselmo Mejia-Urjuan, 55, was charged with menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal impersonation of another. Police received the call around 6:42 p.m. Thursday. A description was given over the phone and relayed to responding officers. The male was located a short distance away and detained. Dunkirk man charged in Thursday night stabbing

A Dunkirk man is facing second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon charges after a stabbing last week on Franklin Avenue. Dunkirk Police report around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, they received a tip that a male was stabbed. Officers made contact with the victim and after a short investigation it was determined the victim was stabbed once by Christian J. Rodriguez-Pagan over a verbal argument. Officers located Rodriguez-Pagan, 35, at his house where he was taken into custody without issue. He was transported to Dunkirk Police Headquarters and for arraignment.
